10 Things Only Stephen King Fans Will Understand

"I love crime, I love mysteries, and I love ghosts."

As a writer, one of the things that I've always been interested in doing is actually invading your comfort space. Because that's what we're supposed to do. Get under your skin and make you react.

At this point, Stephen King needs no introduction. You don't need me to tell you he was born in Portland, Maine in 1947, or that his books have sold over three-hundred and fifty million copies around the world.

He is Earth's foremost horror writer, and is responsible for some of the most shocking, provocative fiction (it is fiction...right?) ever printed. If his stories are anything to go by, though, he's probably the foremost horror writer in several other dimensions and some time in the past, too. At this point King has amassed such a huge body of work that it almost seems supernatural in and of itself. How does one man produce so much great writing at such a fantastic pace? Nevertheless, King fans aren't complaining. More material means more to discuss, and more things that only Stephen King fans will understand.

10. Trying To Explain To People You Aren't A Psychopath

How many times do we have to explain it: we aren't all depressed sociopaths. There's a vast difference between genuine morbidity and being utterly fascinated by it.

Stephen King fans like reading about the more grim aspects of nature and humanity. Why? Because horror reveals truth through the darkest aspects of nature and humanity. It's not all about loving blood, guts and horrible monsters (though that's often pretty cool). In the words of King himself:
We make up horrors to help us cope with the real ones.
