10 Amazing Legacy Superheroes Who Proved Fans Wrong

10. Jane Foster

Jane Foster as Thor
Marvel

Storylines To Read: Thor: The Goddess Of Thunder, etc.

When Jane Foster took over the mantle of Thor some four years ago, a vocal minority of fans pushed against the move. While Jane wouldn't be revealed as the new Goddess of Thunder until later in the year, some fans couldn't quite comprehend the Odinson being away from the mantle, nor that he had been replaced by a woman.

The opposition to Jane's acquisition of mjolnir was blatantly sexist, but that didn't stop those who were reading Jason Aaron's series from enjoying Jane being in the lead role. As the Goddess of Thunder, Foster has left calls to see her concede the identity well and truly in the dust, with the Odinson leading his own series as the so-called 'Unworthy Thor', away from Jane while she does her own thing.

It looks as though Foster's Thor will bow out this year, sadly. Jane's been fighting cancer since she first picked up mjolnir, and while those teases for Avengers: No Surrender could all be misdirection, they're certainly ominous.

Jane's Thor has been one of the most refreshing things about the medium since her introduction. Should she leave, Marvel will be worse off for it.
