10 Best Comic First Issues This Week (Dec 12, 2018)

9. Fantastic Four: Wedding Special #1

Batman Who Laughs variant
Marvel Comics

When Marvel Comics finally brought back the Fantastic Four, they went big with Ben Grimm proposing to Alicia Masters. It was a great moment for long-term fans, and a bit out of the blue for short-term readers but still good. Despite the name, this is not the marriage issue, but is more a pre-wedding special.

It is very weird to see Marvel Comics go for a Bachelorette Special, but its awesomely fun. Gail Simone handles the main plot by being able to handle the balance of debauchery that a superhero-themed strip club entails and the tastefulness that Marvel would allow. In what other scenario could you have Jennifer Walters hulking out because Mole Men interrupted her female-equivalent of a lapdance from a stripper in an Iron Man outfit?

On the other end of the spectrum, Dan Slott pens the heart-driven B-story with Ben going to see Alicia's father, the villainous Puppet Master, to ask for his blessing on their marriage. With Slott being the writer for the current Fantastic Four series, this encapsulates his overall views on how to handle the gigantic history of Marvel's First Family, although he ends his fairly dialogue-driven section with Alicia having made a doll of him so it doesn't actively take Puppet Master out of the bad guy pool.

This is totally worth the buy, for current readers and people who just want to see a hen do with some of the big name ladies of Marvel!
