Jeff Lemire has to be one of the hardest working writers in comics. His output is ridiculously high and continues to be of quality. Another quick recommendation is his Extraordinary X-Men #17 if you want to read one of the best Storm comics since her ongoing series ended.

The best work Lemire is currently writing is Black Hammer. The series was originally supposed to come out in 2015 but unfortunately ended up being delayed. The wait turned out to be worthwhile as we see how this new story is unfolding.

The series focused on a group of heroes whose time had passed. Following a huge interdimensional crisis, they were banished from their home and now live in a small farming town. There is something endlessly fascinating about watching these titans as they go through mundane day to day life while keeping their secrets under wraps.

The highlight of this comic is the characters. They all feel fully developed and have unique voices, their believable foibles refreshing compared to the broad archetypes of most mainstream releases.

This is a series that is continuing into 2017 and gives something a little bit different from the other books on the shelves. If you want to read a new superhero book that isn't weighed down by tons of history, this is the way to go.
