The chaotic stories of many superheroes and villains are bound to include an epic battle or two, with some of the most powerful beings that exist within their individual universe having gone toe-to-toe on a regular basis. With that said, it should hardly come as a surprise for readers to learn that there have been some characters who have battled, and even managed to kill, Godlike beings, such as Darkseid or Loki.

Although there is an obvious trend in comic book history to frequently resurrect previously deceased characters, it has nevertheless been true as well that when godlike characters die it is often treated as a dramatic turning point, where, of which, it can sometimes implicate changes that lie ahead for a publication's comic book universe.

In any case, though, these events can be relied upon to at least deliver an intense brawl between two characters who battle it out to the death. Even better is the fact that many of these confrontations often involve a surprising victory, as heroes who really have no right to take on a god and win - let alone survive - can sometimes emerge victorious...

10. Orion Kills Darkseid

Batma Darkseid
Jack Kirby/DC Comics

A prophecy decreed by the Source had foretold that Orion would eventually defeat/kill his father, Darkseid, in a battle that would decide the fate of both Apokolips and New Genesis. Years later, this prophecy would seemingly come true following the outcome of a negotiated battle between Darkseid and Orion.

Prior to this battle, however, Orion had actually learned from his mother, Tigra, that Darkseid wasn't really his father. Confused by this, Orion had then left his mother to find Darkseid to confirm whether or not this was true. This then leads Orion to Earth, where he finds Darkseid in search of the Anti-life equation.

There, the two become entangled in a conflict that inevitably leaves Tigra dead. Enraged by this, Orion goes after Darkseid with the intention of killing him. Rather than let this proceed, Darkseid offers to settle their rivalry once and for all with a battle to the death.

Although this inevitably sets into motion the prophecy's fulfilment, Orion accepts regardless, and the two gods proceed to duke it out on Apokolips. During this intense battle, Orion eventually manages to kill Darkseid by redirecting his Omega beam. While it may be the case that the prophecy was somewhat wrong about Orion, his success in battle nevertheless leaves him in charge as the new overlord of Apokolips.
