With Marvel and Fox merging and the success of Deadpool, and Cable's first appearance making waves in the sequel, having Cable look after a mutant Messiah in the form of a small child would be a fantastic story to explore in the X-Men franchise's already long and storied cinematic history.

It wouldn't even be difficult to bring to the screen, given the success of Logan and a particularly juicy name-reveal at the end of Deadpool 2. The "gruff dad figure keeps a spunky girl safe from danger" demographic which seems to have risen among gamers and fans of the film Logan will certainly be pleased, as will anyone who liked Cable's first outing - which, given fan reactions to Deadpool's sequel, seems to be everyone.

Cable, as both gruff badass and a man secure in his futuristic masculinity enough not to ascribe to outdated machismo stylings, and a father on top of all that, would make a perfect counterpoint to the kind and determined Hope Summers, who he raises as his own. They'd be the kind of duo audiences will love to see onscreen, along with the backdrop of a world-changing mutant crisis.
