2014 has already been a superb year for comics, with creativity seemingly at an all time high in terms of innovative storytelling and eye-catching artwork. As well as the great material being published by Marvel and DC, the creator owned comic is experiencing a renaissance, with many writers splitting their time between their own creations and work for hire at the Big Two. In fact, it seems to be increasingly rare these days to see a writer's name on a comic published by Marvel or DC and then find out that person doesn't have their own series running at one of the smaller publishers. It's a beautiful time to be a fan, as these creators are putting so much quality work out, but also one of the best times in history to be a creator, as it has been proven time and time again that the audience is definitely there for stories outside of the superhero norm. Our plan is to do two articles focussing on the most exciting creators working in the comic book field today. This article will detail the writers, the scribes who are giving us entertaining and thought-provoking stories to read every single week, and the second article will focus on the artists who are pushing the very limits of the comic book form we've known and loved for so long. Keep in mind that these articles will be about the current crop of young, exciting talent who are on the rise in the industry. Established veterans such as Grant Morrison, Scott Snyder and Ed Brubaker are still at the top of their game in this field, and it should be taken as a given that they are some of the most exciting writers in the industry. But this article is about the writers who will inherit the keys to the kingdom from them, so to speak, and will be the names we will see on our favourite comic book's covers in the coming years.
