9. Sex Criminals
A series that sells itself on name alone, Sex Criminals does exactly what it says on the tin. Written and drawn by Matt Fraction and Chip Zdarsky, it's essentially a goofy, sex-fuelled crime-comedy about a couple who can freeze time whenever they orgasm. Although hardly the kind of superheroes you'll see signing on for The Avengers Initiative any time soon, it's a premise with endless possibilities, and one that would lend itself well to cinematic interpretations.
Fraction and Zdarsky have already made a deal with Universal TV to adapt Sex Criminals for the small screen, but should that project fall through, a film adaptation could be on the cards.
It'd be the perfect project for someone like Judd Apatow, whose increasingly stale output was jolted back into life following last year's Netflix series LOVE, which also followed a group of flawed misfits as they attempt to navigate an adult relationship. It'd be a perfect match, considering how Sex Criminals owes a great deal to movies like Bridesmaids, The 40-Year Old Virgin, and Knocked Up.
