In the pantheon of 'What If?' tales there have been a few dedicated to Punisher. Head and shoulders above the rest for just straight out weirdness is the 'What If?' where our friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man just isn't that friendly after all.
It's the same tried and tested origin story but with one major twist. This time when Uncle Ben is killed and Peter catches up with the man responsible he just murders the hell out of him. From then on out it's a free-for-all as Punisher Spidey and his trusty web-shooter guns declare war on his rogues gallery.
He slaughters The Sinister Six and after saving Gwen Stacy from the drop that usually kills her, quickly dispatches of The Green Goblin. However, realising that his actions keep putting his loved ones in the way, he finally ditches the vigilante lifestyle and drops his costume in a bin.
And there it would stay, until a gravely wounded Frank Castle staggers into the alley after his family have been murdered and finds a very familiar looking white skull shirt just laying around...
