No, not in the naming of Rob Liefield himself - that's a given, they are his parents after all - but they did have a hand in giving Wade Wilson's alter ego his more familiar calling card.

It seems that a young Robert was very active when it came to creating characters and used to have a notebook that he'd jot down names that he liked. This would come in very handy when, during his run on New Mutants, he convinced Marvel to allow him to not only be the artist but to pitch plots and new additions to the line-up.

This was where everyone's favorite anti-hero would make his debut and all he needed was a name.

His parents used to bet on something called a deadpool, a slightly morbid pastime where, when a celebrity died, people place money on who would be the next to pop their clogs, as the theory is celebrities always seem to die in threes.

Rob liked the name so much he would put it in his book and dust it down when it came to naming his new creation.
