10 Mind-Blowing Facts You Didn't Know About The '90s Spider-Man Cartoon

9. Stan Lee's Wife Played Madam Web

A lot of the later episodes revolved around the mysterious Madam Web; a psychic who emphasised that Spider-Man played the central role in a battle that would decide the fate of the universe. This eventually led to Spidey's most epic story, Secret Wars.

Many fans of the show were oblivious that Stan Lee's wife, Joan Lee provided the voice of Madam Web. At first, this might sound like typical Hollywood nepotism. "She's married to the creator of Spider-Man so of course she has a role in the show!"

But despite having no acting training, Lee is AMAZING as Madam Web. She's so intimidating and commanding in the role that it feels like she was born to play her. This is extra impressive since she has only previously appeared in two small roles in the 1994 Fantastic Four cartoon.

Ironically, the producers didn’t want her to be in the show because they said it would be impossible to make a toy out of a “lousy old broad.”
