Although NO. 1 With A Bullet seems to have slipped relatively beneath most people's radar, Jacob Semahn and Jorge Corona's upcoming comic is shaping up to be one of the most important stories of the year.

Set in a frighteningly realistic world where a new piece of tech called 'Iris Shutter' (contact lenses that let users record and simulate at the blink of an eye) hits the market, online celebrity Nash Huang finds herself at the centre of a conspiracy as she falls victim to a malicious campaign of targeted harassment, exacerbated by the lenses themselves.

Billed as a "stalker story at heart with a Black Mirror feel", Semahn and Corona's comic is one for the digital age, where online toxicity is the norm and technology - more often than not - has a part to play in normalising said behaviour. It's a particularly salient comic, and one that feels distinct in an industry that has all too often ignored the toxic milieu that surrounds it, certainly in online spaces.

When we caught up with Semahn the other week, he said that the book will "explore that culture [where technology is used as a weapon against people] and why we perpetuate this notion that our lives are not fully lived until they are captured in 140 characters (edit: now 280!) or a photo." It has plenty to say, and as the industry itself continues to suffer from online harassers and toxic behaviour more generally, you'll struggle to find a more important comic this year.
