10 Most Quintessential 'Superman Moments' In Comic Book History

4. €œI Wouldn€™t Have It Any Other Way€ €” Action Comics #775

In Action Comics #775, the Man of Tomorrow is confronted by a group of superpowered anti-heroes known as The Elite. Led by a telekinetic nihilist named Manchester Black, these guys are not just out to kill Superman. They€™re out to tear him down completely, defile everything he stands for, to catch it on camera, and prove to the whole world that Superman is obsolete. And for a moment, it seems like they do just that. Superman snaps, murdering The Elite in cold blood. Reduced to tears, Black points to the cameras and says that the whole world saw what just happened €” now they know that Superman is just a filthy murderer. He€™s no better than The Elite. But that€™s when Supes shows his hand. He didn€™t actually kill any of them €” all he did was show the world the ugliness of violence. He€™s bloodied, he€™s battered, but in the end, Superman has beaten The Elite fair and square. Manchester Black vows, as all villains do, that his feud with the hero isn€™t over. He€™ll be back, and he€™ll make Superman pay! Superman€™s response? €œYou know what€? I wouldn€™t have it any other way.€ Come on, now that€™s just awesome.
