10 Punisher Graphic Novels You Must Read Before You Die

8. War Zone

A classic Punisher tale, extremely well-told. The first six issues of the celebrated War Zone series see Castle taking on yet another vicious mob family.

Written by Chuck Dixon and beautifully illustrated by the legendary John Romita Jr., it goes beyond Frank's usual battle van methodology to have the guy go undercover and infiltrate the mob, taking them down from within.

Serving as inspiration to some of Thomas Jane's Punisher (that popsicle scene), it's a violent, fast-paced tale set firmly in the Punisher's corner of the Marvel universe. Watching Frank disassemble the Avengers is fun and all, but sometimes you've got to let the guy do what he does best. The other 35 issues aren't half bad either.
