10 Spider-Man Villains Tom Holland's Spidey Should Definitely Fight

Grab your red tights, things just got real.

Spider Man Carnage
Marvel

Spider-Man has had a fairly mixed run on the big screen. We’ve had, if you count Civil War, six modern Spider-Man films to date and only three, if you count Civil War, have been any good.

Are the problems down to the main character? Absolutely not. Both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield were perfectly fine casting choices and though both appeared in at least one less-than-stellar Spidey flick, they're also very capable actors.

When Spidey films do crash, it's more often the story and the choice of villains that’s to blame. But now we have a new Spider-Man in Tom Holland who has already meshed the best of Maguire and Garfield's performances and has signed on for three solo films. And that means we have lots of opportunity for more villains for him to fight.

The question now is who the best options are. And no, there’s not a goblin in sight: that direction has already been done to death and never really in the right way so let’s just park the Osborns for a bit, shall we?

10. Prowler

Spider Man Carnage
Marvel Comics

This choice may be considered something of a guilty pleasure but there’s something about Prowler that just cries out to be set to screen.

Real name Hobie Brown, the Prowler is a character born of somewhat good intentions. Brown intended to use the homemade high-tech Prowler suit to steal things but then return them for a reward out of his costume. Unfortunately on his first outing, Webhead doles out the usual punishment only to convince Brown to use the suit for good.

The right filmmaker you could construct a pretty decent three-act subplot around that story. Maybe they fight in the opening ten minutes but then Prowler turns up to save Spidey’s skin near the end? There’s also a fun story about Hobie putting on a Spidey suit and deliberately being seen with Peter Parker so as to throw off some of Peter’s suspicious friends which could make for a great one of those after credits that Marvel are famous for.
