10 Things Marvel Wants You To Forget About Captain America

Besides all the things that Steve Rogers has forgotten. He's old y'know.

MarvelMarvelIt's July 4th weekend in the US, which means - besides saying "WELCOME TO EARTH" a lot in our best Will Smith voices - we Englishman have got to be all bitter, cynical, and crap all over an American institution out of sheer spite. And what more American icon is there than Steve Rogers, one of the earliest Marvel superheroes and one who was designed to be the epitome of everything good about the red, white and blue? The patriotism of Captain America has made his success in the Marvel Cinematic Universe across the globe all the more surprising. We would've been willing to bet you dollars to donuts that a film headlined by a guy whose costume is patterned after the stars and stripes would've been the first big misstep in the fledgling studio's output, sure to be rejected by a world that has become thoroughly jaded by the real-life country's political antics. And yet we were, happily, proven wrong as The First Avenger and then The Winter Soldier became not just huge successes but also amongst the best superhero movies we've seen thus far. As such, Cap has become something of a hot property in Marvel's hands, one they're eager to ride all the way to the bank. Which also means that they're more protective of Steve Rogers than ever, and any blight on his publication history is to be swiftly covered up and never spoken of again, lest this bastion of American heroism have his legitimacy called into question. We take no joy in telling you this, dear readers, but there are a lot of those blights to be found. Here are just ten things that, by all measures, Marvel would probably you rather forget about Captain America.
