10 Times Marvel Comics Lost Their Damn Minds

1. Billy Ray Cyrus' Excellent Adventure

If there's one thing you can take away from this list, it's that Marvel went pretty far off the deep end during the 90's. A lot of that was due to desperation. At the time, the comic's industry was in decline and Marvel was facing bankruptcy so they were willing to try any gimmick that might sell.

One such gimmick was the Marvel Music line, a series of comics that mostly focused on biographies of famous musicians, and that's how we ended up with a comic book starring Billy Ray Cyrus. Now that in and of itself isn't necessarily that strange, there were probably at least a few people out there interested in the life and times of the Man with the Achy Breaky Heart, but that is not what this comic is about.

This is a 48 page comic about a man whose only superpower is having an incredible mullet palling around a Civil War fort with a group of Native Americans pretending to be ghosts and then fighting a bear.

But that's only the first story. Our second tale sees Billy Ray travelling back in time to Camelot, getting slapped by a knight and then going on a quest to slay a dragon which turns out just to be a hot spring.

Marvel Music was not a huge success.

I was just a mild-mannered NCTJ accredited journalist until one day I found out the truth... that I could share my nerdy ramblings with people on the internet! It's just like mumbling to myself on the train, but without all the strange looks.
