10 Times Villains Stole Superheroes’ Powers

9. Quarmer Steal's Superman's Powers - The Sandman Saga

Loki Mjolnir
DC Comics

A perhaps unusual villain, Quarmer is what happens when an entity from the Quarrm dimension senses traces of Superman's powers residing in a patch of sand and decides to make it into a body, becoming the strange villain also known as Sand Superman.

In order to survive, however, Sand Superman had to take further energy from the source that had created its body, meaning the beachy creation would randomly turn up to wherever Superman was to drain more of his powers.

This got to the point that the Man of Steel had very little of his power remaining, forcing him to finally confront the problem of his sandy brethren.

While Superman successfully took his powers back from Quarmer, their confrontation would leave him with brain damage, which lead to an even more bizarre storyline wherein this neural damage would make the hero act in mean and uncharacteristic ways.
