10 Underpowered Characters Who Defeated Major Heroes

9. Frank Pratt Vs. Batman

Superman Muhammad Ali
DC Comics

In Batman: Dark Victory, you'd be forgiven for ignoring pretty much everything but the intrigue of who the mysterious Hangman is - after all, that's the main plot of the series.

But there's also definitely something to be said about the fact that Batman gets a surprisingly decisive defeat from someone who isn't even his enemy. Frank Pratt - who had fought Batman due to his criminal past before - manages to accidentally confront Batman while on the run from the Hangman, who had confirmed Pratt as his newest victim.

In a panic, Frank shoots Batman, and hits him squarely in the chest - which doesn't kill him because of his bat-armor, but also knocks him clean out from the impact alone, meaning Pratt accidentally managed to beat the Bat.

Ironically, this fortunate pot shot serves to help Pratt in precisely zero ways, as he is summarily murdered by the time Batman is back up and ready to find him. The downside of wearing a spooky costume, really, is that people instinctively presume that you're out to beat them to dust - something that works to the Dark Knight's detriment in this case.
