Thor is one of the oldest and most powerful superheroes of all time. Even before he was a golden-haired Marvel icon he was a legitimate Norse God for thousands of years, and people all over the world bowed down to him. In today's age of comics and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there's no denying that Thor can't do pretty much anything he wants. He can fight, he can fly, he's seemingly indestructible, and he's charming as hell. But how much of that is Thor and how much is his trusty hammer, Mjolnir?

As it turns out, although a few powers come along with being a Norse God, the hammer's really where it's at. So many of Thor's legendary offensive and defensive powers come from his hammer, and without the skills that Mjolnir possesses it's safe to say Thor would have died a long time ago. Being charming is all well and good, but launching forcefields that can chew through entire galaxies is better; and that's something that only Thor's hammer can do.

The old saying goes that clothes make the man; but in Thor's case it's the hammer makes the God of Asgard. And there's a whole arsenal of incredible powers that you didn't know Thor's hammer has...

It’s worth noting that Thor hasn’t always been the huge guy in the helmet that looks just like Chris Hemsworth. In recent comics Thor has been Jane Foster, the original Thor’s love interest. And it was in those comics that this new Thor discovered a crazy new power from Mjolnir.

During a battle with Silver Samurai, Thor was shot with a Midas bullet – which is a weapon able to weaken Thor’s godly powers. This was a problem because Thor is never supposed to be in mortal danger, but as someone now becoming a mortal, she was. Realizing that without Thor’s powers Thor can’t survive, Mjolnir stepped in and transformed into Jane Foster herself, who just so happens to be a doctor. The hammer, AKA Jane Foster OG, used Dr. Foster’s medical knowhow to perform surgery on herself and save Thor’s life. It’s kinda the most trippy thing that’s happened since Inception, but that doesn’t make it any less cool.
