20 Comic Characters That Are Total Rip-Offs‏

17. Aquaman

Arthur Curry has become something of a running joke in comics fandom, but the character has a pretty cool story behind him. The king of the underwater city of Atlantis, Arthur uses his powers of the ocean - including his ability to talk to fish - to defend both the depths of his realm and the land loving humans as Aquaman! Also he has a neat scaly outfit and a shiny pitchfork. Like fishermen use?

Totally a rip-off of: Namor the Sub-Mariner

And like Namor, the Sub-Mariner, uses. Aquaman debuted in 1941, three years after Namor was created by Bill Everett for Motion Picture Funnies Weekly, an early Marvel comic. Like Aquaman, Namor was the prince of the underwater city of Atlantis; like Aquaman, Namor has a scaly costume (although it's a lot skimpier than Arthur's); like Aquaman, Namor uses his command over the ocean and all its occupants to help mankind, although he developed so that he does that rather begrudgingly. The only difference is that Namor did it first, and the similarities are rather damning.
