16. Thunderbolts

Formed to fill the vacuum left by the Avengers, who had gone AWOL after the events of the Onslaught saga (long story), the Thunderbolts were later revealed to in fact be the Masters of Evil in disguise, hoping to bring down the superhero community from the inside.

Since then the team became a place for reformed supervillains, later becoming a government-sponsored team doing covert work for the White House.

Totally a rip-off of: Suicide Squad

The Suicide Squad were inspired by the Dirty Dozen, and consist of a rotating team of reformed supervillains doing covert work for the government which usually lives up to their title (ie they're suicide missions).

The team became a fan-favourite, for its use of obscure villains and for their ballsy leader Amanda Waller. They don't try to hide their identities in the same way that the Thunderbolts did, but otherwise they're pretty much exactly the same.

The Thunderbolts were introduced in the mid-nineties, whilst the Suicide Squad have been knocking about in various forms since 1959...
