Once considered a B-List character, Iron Man's popularity exploded when he made his big screen debut played by Robert Downey, Jr. in the 2008 movie which kicked off the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Created in 1963, Tony Stark had always been well liked by comic book fans, but Jon Favreau and Kevin Feige's risky casting decision paid off in a big way for the character in all forms of media. Iron Man may now even be bigger than Spider-Man!
