5 Things You Didn't Know About The Wolverine

The Wolverine With the opening weekend of The Wolverine behind us, I wanted to provide a follow up to my "Where To Start With...Wolverine Comics" article. Wolverine is one of the major anti-heroes of the Marvel Universe; he walks the line between hunter-killer and all round good guy almost perfectly. There have been numerous depictions, retcons and rewrites to his character to make him fit into the current narrative or to wash away some of his more abrasive elements. Logan would evolve from a Canadian G-Man to a world traveller and then become one of the X-Men's greatest members. He is now depicted as the beloved hardboiled, tortured killer with a heart of gold. Note that a similar process were also applied The Punisher, Daredevil, and Blade over the years. This process birthed both a very convoluted past for Logan and an interesting Marvel archetype. However, it also made Wolverine one of the more popular X-Men, if the most popular of the whole series. There is little doubt that Wolverine remains a favourite among both fans and casual readers. Hugh Jackman€™s portrayal of Wolverine (in all of the X-Men films) helped make the actor a star. These numerous film adaptations (and the many more to come), the cartoons and the other mainstream portrayals of Logan are of the strong, silent tough-guy, or the loner outsider. Most never mention the more odd, and downright random elements of the character from the comics. So, I have picked through decades of back stories for some obscure facts about the character. The following list is made up of 5 facts that most people may not be aware of about the man known as, The Wolverine... Honourable Mention: Wolverine Saved Blade! This is one of the coolest facts that I came upon while researching this article. In recent continuity, it was established that Wolverine, while travelling during London in the 19th Century, saved a young child who was running away from vampires. This child was revealed to be Eric Brooks around 9 years old. Who is Eric Brooks? None other than Blade, as in the Vampire Hunter Blade. This story is notably different to the original origins of Blade. This would be again referenced during Civil War era, after Wolverine escaped S.H.I.E.L.D. custody. Blade, who was a S.H.I.E.L.D. member at this time, was ordered to track Wolverine down and bring him in. The two had a quick brawl, that was ended after Blade flashbacked to their 19th century meeting. He then let Wolverine go as repayment for Logan's past kindness. A very cool little moment indeed!
