6 Comics You Need To Read Before Marvel's Secret Empire

4. Captain America: Sam Wilson

Captain America Hydra Secret Empire
Marvel Comics

Following a fight that ended with the Super Soldier Serum being removed from Steve Rogers, the mantle of Captain America had to be passed on to a new hero. Bucky Barnes had taken on the name a decade before, but this time the legacy went to the Falcon, Sam Wilson.

Captain America: Sam Wilson benefits from the fact that the writer of Secret Empire, Nick Spencer, scripted this title as well.

This series sees the return of the original Captain America, but also has Sam continue to wield the iconic shield. Before it was revealed that Steve Rogers had been transformed into a HYDRA agent, the hints began to drop in this comic.

Eagle-eyed fans can go back to try and find all of the evidence that signalled the change the Steve Rogers. It also shows how much both the public and heroes alike put their faith in Steve. His calculated manipulations are at full effect throughout this run.
