Improved DC Mythology...

6. Alex Danvers

Away from the titular Maid of Might, one of Supergirl’s key characters is Chyler Leigh’s Alex Danvers. The thing is, Alex doesn’t actually exist within the pages of DC Comics.

Whereas a show like Arrow took a barely used DC character like Felicity Smoak and developed her into a major player, Supergirl went one better with Alex Danvers and completely created the character from scratch. And to be fair to the minds behind the series, they’ve done a great job with Kara’s foster sister.

Not only does Alex so often have a vital role to play in Supergirl’s ongoing battle to fight the good fight and protect National City and beyond, but Danvers has been fantastically fleshed out as a brilliant character who can more than stand on her own two feet.

In the Alex Danvers character, Supergirl has been able to highlight not only a sibling relationship, not only a work/family dynamic, but the series has also been able to put the spotlight on the LGBT community as Supergirl’s second season saw Alex struggling with the fact that she was gay.

With how she’s been written and developed over Supergirl’s five seasons, Alex Danvers is most definitely a welcome addition to the larger mythology of Supergirl.
