7 Times Comics Made Terrible Heroes Great

7. Drax Sheds His Skin

Today, Drax the Destroyer is a beloved name amongst the Marvel faithful, having been the star of James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy films with former wrestling superstar Dave Bautista lending his talents to the role.

However, the Drax seen in Gunn's films was a relative newcomer to the Marvel mythos in 2013. It was only a decade earlier where the character saw his famous grey and red, knife-wielding redesign; before that (and much like Yondu), he boasted a design seemingly at odds with the 21st century, with the Modern Age of comics having somehow passed the Destroyer by.

Then came Annihilation, which saw Drax shed his old design for the now iconic look adapted in both Guardians films. Afterwards, he joins the rebooted Guardians of the Galaxy in 2008, and though his personality differs somewhat from his cinematic counterpart, there's no denying that Drax's redesign - as well as the move to take away some of his more outlandish powers - benefitted the character in the long run.
