Already this series is set up to bring about nostalgia for The Dark Phoenix Saga.

After all, Marvel are making an exceedingly big deal over nostalgia at the moment. Their Marvel Legacy initiative is all about reminding fans of classic storylines, going back to original numbering and even reminiscing over classic covers.

And the X-Men line has been doing it a while longer - ResurrXion, which returned the X-Men to the state it's in now, has largely been about cashing in on old books and runs, and the affection fans have for classic X-series.

So it seems likely that Phoenix Resurrection will rely on some nostalgia, and perhaps even a few story beats from the classic X-Men storyline that introduced the entity in the first place.

One of the most well-known and beloved X-Men arcs, the repercussions of which are still felt even to this day, it won't hurt to look back on that classic tale for inspiration going forward. It will all rest on if Rosenberg and Yu can manage the balancing act between relying on the older story too much and it becoming a crutch and respectfully reminiscing on the tale in a way that makes the story grow into something new.

There's a lot of promise coming out of the looking back to look forward method, so it really could lead to some great moments.
