8 Reasons You Need To Read Valkyrie

7. The Artwork Is Stunning

Jane Foster Valkyrie
Marvel Comics

When writing a book about such a strong female lead, it's important to make sure the art is a solid reflection of the character.

We're only just moving away from the over-sexualisation of women in comic books and it's no surprise that the team behind Valkyrie don't fall into that trap. The design of Valkyrie herself is powerful and dynamic, allowing the familiar features of Jane to come through while still retaining that classic, Asgardian feel.

The pairing of the highly detailed pencils, complimented by bright but not over the top colouring from Jesus Aburtov makes every page turn an utter joy. Cafu has drawn some of the most expressive characters in any current comic series, be it Jane's exasperation during her regular working life or the determination in her battles as Valkyrie. The emotion involved in each panel is so brilliantly emphasised by Aburtov's choice of colours that huge moments are even more impressive than they should be.
