8 Stories To Read Before The Beginning Of DC’s Cinematic Universe

7. Suicide Squad: Trial By Fire

David Ayer€™s Suicide Squad is the next film to be released in the DC Cinematic Universe, and if you want an idea of what the Suicide Squad is all about, there is plenty within the DC catalogue to read. While there have been many great variations and incarnations of this team, such as Gail Simone€™s Secret Six, nothing beats the original Suicide Squad title by Jon Ostrander, the first volume of which is called Suicide Squad: Trail By Fire. Written at a point in DC€™s history where the company was looking to produce darker and more realistic stories, Ostrander€™s Suicide Squid combines new characters, such as Amanda Waller, with obscure yet established DC villains like Captain Boomerang and Deadshot, creating the very premise of the book: a group of C-list villains forced to perform covert missions for the US Government. Essentially, this Post-Crisis 1980€™s classic explores and establishes the espionage side of the DCU. Ostrander had a long tenure on the book, which defined the significant members of the team. And although many of the characters that will be featured in the upcoming film, such as Katanna and Killer Croc, are not in this particular volume, the film will undoubtedly draw influence from Ostrander€™s monumental and groundbreaking run.

Since childhood, Bryant has been an avid fan of superheroes, and he has been reading comic books since 2006. His full name is "George Bryant Lucas"; however, after enduring countless Darth Vader jokes, he has chosen to go by his middle name. Born and raised in the United States, Bryant is currently living with his lovely wife in the country side of Wiltshire County, UK. Bryant does suffer from a mild case of dyslexia; misspellings and homonyms are to be expected on occasion.
