8. Silver Surfer

Don’t let his ice-cool demeanour and love for surf boards fool you, the Silver Surfer is one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Universe - not that you’d know it from his cinematic debut in 2007's Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.

Imbued with the Power Cosmic, the former thrall of Galactus would be a good fit for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where galactic and otherworldly elements have established themselves as regular fixtures.

Celebrated mo-cap maestro Doug Jones portrayed the Surfer in Fox’s Fantastic Four sequel while Laurence Fishburne supplied his vocals.

His ill-fated debut was neither actor’s fault. The sad truth is that Rise of the Silver Surfer simply wasn’t very good - it was a juvenile and simplistic superhero offering which failed to do justice to one of Marvel’s most thought-provoking characters.

Norrin Radd has never been given a second chance on celluloid, but hopefully that will change amid rumours that the rights to Fantastic Four could be on their way back to the House of M with Surfer in tow.
