2005's Batman Begins was a reboot of the origin story of Batman which served as the first of the three movies in Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy. In the movie, Bruce Wayne becomes Batman having been taught the skills required to do so by Henri Ducard - a man representing the mysterious group known as the League of Shadows.

Little did Bruce know that Henri Ducard was actually the alter-ego of Ra's al Ghul - a man wanting to make the world better, but in harsh, Draconian ways - and, as a result, the two end up fighting.

In the movie's final battle, Batman overpowers Ra's aboard Gotham City's monorail and leaves him hanging precariously from a height. He says that he will not kill him and Ra's is relieved, but he goes on to say that it does not mean he has to save him and leaves Ra's to die as the train collapses and explodes. While he didn't directly kill him, his inaction caused the villain to die.
