Batman’s 10 Craziest Mentors

The men who made Batman.

Batman wasn€™t born in a vacuum, and in truth Bruce Wayne had significant help becoming the world€™s greatest detective. A lot of help, as it turns out... Way back in Detective Comics Issue 33 from 1939, when the Batman€™s dark origin was first revealed to his readership, we learned that Bruce Wayne had spent years becoming a €œmaster scientist€ as well as training his body €œto physical perfection€. Then, a few panels later, a bat fluttered in through the study window and the rest, as they say, is history. Throughout the intervening years, a great many creators have added to Batman€™s origins by supplying him with a steady stream of mentors. These were inspirational figures that taught the young Bruce Wayne (often heavily disguised and using a false identity) about subjects as diverse as martial arts, deductive skills and toxicology. Now, with The Batman€™s 75th anniversary upon us, we present 10 of the wackiest, weirdest and most interesting mentors of The Batman...

I am a professional author and lifelong comic books/pro wrestling fan. I also work as a journalist as well as writing comic books (I also draw), screenplays, stage plays, songs and prose fiction. I don't generally read or reply to comments here on What Culture (too many trolls!), but if you follow my Twitter (@heyquicksilver), I'll talk to you all day long! If you are interested in reading more of my stuff, you can find it on http://quicksilverstories.weebly.com/ (my personal site, which has other wrestling/comics/pop culture stuff on it). I also write for FLiCK http://www.flickonline.co.uk/flicktion, which is the best place to read my fiction work. Oh yeah - I'm about to become a Dad for the first time, so if my stuff seems more sentimental than usual - blame it on that! Finally, I sincerely appreciate every single read I get. So if you're reading this, thank you, you've made me feel like Shakespeare for a day! (see what I mean?) Latcho Drom, - CQ
