Captain Marvel: 10 Biggest Changes From The Comics

9. Carol's Relationship With Nick Fury

In the comics, Carol Danvers and Nick Fury haven’t really interacted all that much, something that the movie really changed.

Though, one of the times that did see them quite have a fair amount of shared panel time was in Marvel’s Ultimate universe – a relaunched version of the mainline Earth-616 continuity – which saw many of the publisher’s characters reimagined.

This timeline gave us the incarnation of Nick Fury that appears in the MCU, with the casting of the character as Samuel L. Jackson actually stemming from the depiction of the spy in the Ultimate universe. Carol however received a kind of downgrade being transformed from a superhero to someone acting in similar capacity to Fury – even being director of S.H.I.E.L.D for some time.

Her being in such a position led to the two going to war with one another in the Civil War-esque conflict Avengers Vs. New Ultimates – a rather large departure from the buddy cop dynamic of the movie.
