Chew #31 Review - John Layman and Rob Guillory

From the sad events of the last issue that rounded out the mini-series €œSpacecakes€, comes the first part of the next story arc €œBad Apples€ that briefly dwells on the death of **** (I€™m censoring for those who€™ve not yet caught up - but it€™s a main character death and REALLY sad), before moving back (thankfully!) to the mad comedy tone we€™ve all come to know and love.

LardAsses

An unscrupulous company has made a fat-burning energy drink that quite literally burns - €œThe Case of the Immolated Lard-Asses€ opens €œBad Apples€ and John Layman hurls us back into the main story arc of the series that€™s been suspended for the last 2 books. The High Priestess of the Church of the Divinity of the Immaculate Ova - who worship the mysterious and still unexplained fire writing in the sky - has declared war on the chicken eaters just as Tony and Colby become reunited and reinstated as FDA agents. For readers who€™ve felt that the series has become a bit sidetracked these last dozen issues or so, and that€™s a justified attitude, this is Layman turning his sights back on the main plot once again so take heart that the many tangents this series has taken (and they€™ve been enjoyable at least) seem to have been dealt with and now we€™re back on point. For me, I would follow this series from tangent to tangent until everyone involved in making this book has been dead and eaten - and maybe even then still keep reading if Image kept publishing this series! So I loved this issue anyway and it€™s got a panel where a sumo wrestler is set on fire plus Layman and Guillory make a guest appearance in the comic so that's all good! Great art, great story, I€™m on board for this new, brilliant story arc and if you€™re not into this comic yet, what the hell? You got something better to do than read this comic? Exactly. Jump on board, now, we€™re going on an adventure! Read the comic equivalent of a bucket of KFC chicken (meaning awesome) today!
