CM Punk Talked To Batista About UFC And Writing For Drax

Two former WWE Champions have a lot in common.

CM Punk is keeping busy in his post WWE life. In addition to training for an upcoming UFC fight, he's also writing comic books and baseball stories as well. One of his comic book writing projects deals with the story of Drax the Destroyer from the Guardians of the Galaxy series. Punk's fellow former WWE friend Dave Bautista played Drax in the Guardians movie that was really successful and will be reprising the role in the sequel. During an interview with SBNation, Punk revealed that he has talked to Batista about how he's writing for Drax: "I texted Dave right away. 'Dude, I'm gonna be writing the Drax comic book!' And he was like, 'No way!' So yeah, it's definitely bizarre. It's almost one of those stories where you wouldn't be able to make this up." It is pretty unique that a former WWE Champion is going to write a comic about a character played by another former WWE Champion. What that shows more than anything is that WWE's performers are very talented and capable of performing other jobs outside of the wrestling world. Punk also mentioned that he talked to Batista when he was thinking about going to UFC last year because Batista did some MMA training as well as one fight (not in UFC) after he left WWE several years ago. According to Punk, Batista gave him a lot of advice to help him out: "It might have been a little less than a year ago. Yeah, I talked to him about it. This was before I made the announcement . I was heavily thinking about it, so I was -- without spilling the beans to him, because I wasn't sure what I was going to do -- I was asking him all kinds of questions. Because he was in the same situation I was in, coming from the pro wrestling background, a little bit older than he probably should have been , just like I am. So there's a lot of similarities, so he gave me a lot of advice to help me out." Batista fared well in his lone MMA fight. He beat journeyman fighter Vince Lucero on October 6, 2012 for the CES MMA promotion. It was not an exciting fight to watch by any means, but Batista got the win. That was his only fight. Punk plans on having several fights and his first fight is in UFC, which is pretty rare. That's because UFC knows he's going to be a bi draw for them. When will Punk have that first UFC fight? According to him, it's up to his trainers: "In another six months, I should be ready to go, but ... don't take it from me! It's out of my hands. It's up to my trainers." If the six months number is accurate that means his UFC debut will likely take place in November or December this year. Whenever it happens, a lot of people will be watching.
