Complete Guide To Every X-Men Character Who Returned After Death

2. Professor X

Professor Xavier is actively going after Jean Grey's resurrection crown, from the look of things. Let's break it down:

How Did He Die?

Killed in an explosion whilst on a mission; an alien Brood queen hatched its egg inside him, turning him into a new Brood queen; attacked by the Fenris Twins at the Trial of Magneto, suffering a heart attack in the process (he also asked the Master of Magnetism to look after the X-Men - a request that Magneto solemnly obliged).

Thrown into this is the time he was accidentally killed by his time-travelling son Legion, who was actually trying to murder Magneto. He's also been accidentally shot in the head by Bishop, who was attempting to kill a baby, and was even incinerated by Cyclops when he went full-Phoenix.

How Did He Come Back?

Turns out, a mutant shapeshifter with a terminal illness was asked to take his place so that the Prof could prepare to fight the arrival of an alien race; cloned back to life, with his mind transferred into the new body; healed by his girlfriend's alien (Shi'ar) technology; Bishop managed to go back in time and stop Legion from killing anyone, thus ensuring the AoA never came to pass; he wasn't dead, just in a coma - ultimately resuscitated by Exodus and the Acolytes.

For a while, it looked as though that final death - administered by Cyclops - would stick. It turned out last year, however, that he's been psychically locked in a game of wits with the Shadow King. There really is no way of keeping the Prof down, but when he's such an icon, is that really a surprise?
