4. Swamp Thing By Scott Snyder
Prior to his fantastic run on the New 52 Batman, Scott Snyder wrote the also excellent Swamp Thing reboot, bringing the avatar of the green further into the DC universe.
Snyder's run on the character initially follows a post-Brightest Day Alec Holland, the character lacking the powers of the green due to the resurrection in the aforementioned event. However, after attempting to help out a friend with an emergency, Holland is once again forced to accept the powers of the green to prevent his enemy, the avatar of the rot, from causing any further harm.
As one the character's defining runs, and best story in recent years, Snyder's Swamp Thing book is probably the best thing to read before the DC Universe show releases.
