Every X-Men Movie Ranked From Worst To Best

10. The Wolverine

It might have been a vast improvement on Origins, but the Japan set follow-up by James Mangold was fatally boring for a film positioning itself as a superhero movie.

Yes, it was based on a classic Wolverine arc, but the spirit of Chris Claremont and Frank Miller's just isn't in the final product. And while the finale was a dramatic step up in quality, the film doesn't half take its time getting there.

And really, Wolverine fighting a giant silver samurai isn't even as cool as it sounds.

Fundamentally. Mangold fails to take advantage of the setting: theres no reason to be in Japan other than its prettiness, and even worse, aside from the immortality issue, you could put any other hero in Wolverine's place and the film would be exactly the same. There's just too little of his essence in there.
