Fantastic Four: 10 Villains Who Would Have Been Better Than Dr Doom

Doom may be the go-to antagonist but there's a hoard of baddies that could appear in future films.

Like it or not, Dr Doom is an integral part of the Fantastic Four mythos. He is, for all intents and purposes, the fifth member of the Fantastic Four. And in many ways, he's the perfect antagonist for the team. Dr Doom is as intelligent that Mr Fantastic, he's more powerful than the Human Torch or the Invisible Woman, and he's physically stronger than the Thing. Doom is also, crucially, more ruthless than any other character in the Marvel Universe. One of the mistakes made by the last set of Fantastic Four films was focusing too heavily on Dr Doom as the villain. Not only was he the main antagonist of the first film, but he managed to completely dominate the second as well, despite the giant space-cloud monster about to eat the Earth. The man is, basically, one giant ego-trip. Time and again, the character gains ultimate power, only to fall when he reaches too high too fast. No matter how fresh the format feels, in the end the same characters going through the same motions becomes boring. He's already has already been confirmed as the villain for this summer's Fantastic Four reboot, but if this is to be the start of a new film series akin to the X-men franchise, Fox need to bring in villains with more staying power than Dr Doom. With that in mind, we've put together a list of recurring villains and groups from the Fantastic Four comics to come up with the best short - and long - term antagonists that should appear in the future films.

With a (nearly) useless degree in English literature and a personal trainer qualification he's never used, Freddie spends his times writing things that he hopes will somehow pay the rent. He's also a former professional singer, and plays the saxophone and ukulele. He's not really used to talking about himself in the third person, and would like to stop now, thanks.
