Contains spoilers from Gotham Season 5, Episode 4.

Gotham's fifth season has been pretty eventful thus far, and we're only four episodes in. The hit Fox series returned for its final outing a little under a month ago, with a jaw-dropping premiere episode that set the bar incredibly high. Surprisingly, it's managed to maintain that high standard throughout its subsequent instalments, which have certainly been nail-biting to say the least.

The latest episode, Ruin, was nothing short of brilliant and, in addition to keeping us entertained, it left viewers with plenty of unanswered questions. However, the biggest moment arrived rather late into the instalment, when Jeremiah Valeska was shockingly killed off.

The laughing maniac - who is clearly inspired by The Joker - met a grisly end at the hands of Selina Kyle, after the young Catwoman fatally stabbed him several times. Quite frankly, nobody saw it coming. Considering Jeremiah was thought to be a momentous part of Gotham's final outing, it's baffling as to why the writers would write the character out this early on. However, it's entirely possible that the showrunners have a big twist coming.

Whether Jeremiah is permanently dead or not, the character's demise will leave an impression on the post-apocalyptic city - and it will have a huge impact on the show's remaining episodes.
