Has Darkseid's Justice League Role Been Revealed?

The latest apparent spoilers from Snyder's set...

Justice League Darkseid
Warner Bros/DC

As ever, it's best to take any rumour that originates with Heroic Hollywood with a grain of salt (they get things right, but they also carry a lot of fiction), but it sounds like they've got an idea of how Darkseid fits into Justice League: Part One.

Only a matter of days ago, Birth Movies Death ran the story that Steppenwolf would be the surprising lead villain of the piece, pushing Darkseid into the background despite the seeding done in Batman v Superman for his arrival.

Now, HH have filled in the gaps, with a broad picture of the plot:

"Around 30,000 years ago, the Amazonians, the Atlanteans, and Man successfully fought off Darkseid here on Earth. He left three motherboxes behind and that folks is what Steppenwolf is after in Justice League: Part One. That is pretty much your plot."

That would be the boxes seen in that weird deleted scene with Lex Luthor and Steppenwolf that was released around Batman v Superman's release.

Given that the Cyborg sequence in the film also showed one of the boxes in Silas Stone's possession, there's a possibility that the deleted scene means that Snyder changed his mind on their relevance in Justice League. Perhaps they're actually in the possession of each of the unrecruited Justice League members in some way, and Batman and Wonder Woman have to race to get to them before Steppenwolf does.

Then when it turns out the boxes end up in Darkseid's possession anyway by the end of Justice League Part One, the newly formed Justice League will seek some assistance from beyond the grave.

Could those three Mother Boxes be the same ones we saw in that deleted scene featuring Lex Luthor, one of which was seemingly used to transform Victor Stone into Cyborg? For now, that obviously remains to be seen, but it's likely.

Do you guys think this is the best way to handle Darkseid's introduction? As with any rumour, take this all with a pinch of salt for now, but in the meantime, let us know your thoughts in the usual place.

Does that sound like a plot you could get behind for Justice League? Share your reactions below in the comments thread.
