Justice League/Transformers Comics Crossover That Never Was

Transformers teaming with the JLA? Don't laugh, it nearly happened!

There have been many awesome crossovers in the history of comic books but one that we never got to see was a Justice League of America meets The Transformers mashup. It probably sounds unbelievable that such a crossover would ever happen, but it very nearly did and there's concept art to prove it. According to Comic Book Resources, comic artist Phil Jimenez (Wonder Woman 2000-2003, Infinite Crisis) pitched the idea in a committee meeting but it was shot down because of corporate licensing issues and the fact that the Transformers licence is split between IDW and Hasbro who are also linked to the other giant in the comic books world Marvel. Imagine though just how cool such a team-up could have been. You'd be mixing Superman and Batman with Megatron and Optimus Prime! We can hear the sound of a million packs of Kleenex being ripped open as we speak. We can't even begin to list the possibilities this would have brought to the table. Batman utilising Transformer technology to turn some of his most famous gadgets into kick ass mega machines or as Jimenez suggested on his Twitter account "Wonder Woman's invisible jet becoming a very cool Transformer." And imagine the movie spinoff! Wow! Sadly at press time this remains a dream project that is unlikely ever to be realised and makes you wish for a world where perhaps comic book publishers worked together to bring the fans the very best stories they can. If the industry is suffering at all it's because of the lack of variety in todays funny books. Have a look at some of the concept art below and let us know what you think. Would this have been the greatest crossover of all time?
