The upcoming Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover is shaping up to be one of the biggest in television history. With so many characters from various shows and movies set to appear, some of which stretch back decades, the excitement could not be any higher.

It is only right that The CW has gone to such lengths for this mega crossover, given how iconic the Crisis on Infinite Earths comics are and their significance in the DC lore.

One of the universes set to play a big role in the upcoming crossover is Kingdom Come. Normally that alone would have everyone buzzing, but with Brandon Routh reprising his Superman role and none other than Kevin Freakin' Conroy - the most iconic Batman voice of all time! - throwing on the Dark Knight’s cowl in live action for the first time, Crisis' Kingdom Come element has quickly become its most anticipated.

So just what is Kingdom Come, and how could it influence CW’s Crisis on Infinite Earths? The Mark Waid, Alex Ross comic has attained legendary status amongst comics fans, and for good reason...

The premise of the Kingdom Come comics revolves around the disbandment of the Justice League and the subsequent retirement of most heroes. Why? Public sentiment regarding what superheroes should or should not do began to change, with the whole 'kill or no kill' debate being ignited once more.

At the centre of it all was a new superhero named Magog. Unlike his elder statesmen, he had no qualms whatsoever regarding the use of lethal force and demonstrated that when he murdered the Joker.

Seeing how this violent, untrustworthy individual was being hailed as a public hero, Clark and co. decide that the world has indeed passed them by and the best they can do now is let the new generation take over.

While it remains to be seen what state we find the CW’s Kingdom Come universe when it debuts on our screens, chances are neither Routh nor Conroy will be in a fighting mood initially when the Crisis arrives.
