Marvel Comics (technically) has been going since 1939. The company known as Timely Comics published the first issue of Marvel that very year, which introduced what would later become the first heroes of the Marvel Universe in Namor and the original Human Torch. Captain America would later join in 1941, but Marvel Comics #1 laid the foundations of what is today the most successful superhero universe in print.

Is it a somewhat tedious way of getting to do an #1000 issue at the same time DC are doing theirs? Absolutely, but it's hard to disagree that Marvel don't deserve it.

The company is at the forefront of popular culture currently thanks to the efforts of the MCU, and while the comics haven't always been able to capitalise on that popularity, the last decade in particular has seen the publisher produce some truly magnificent comics.

Will anything else arrive for the festivities? It's unclear at the moment, but one would suspect that there's more to this anniversary bash than just an anniversary bash...
