Marvel Universe Meets The Ultimate Marvel Universe In Spider-Men

“For the 50th anniversary of Spider-Man, what everyone was looking for was a Spider-Man story that mattered. Well, here ya go".

Around about the time DC Comics officially announced their mega event Before Watchmen, Marvel slipped out a mysterious teaser for something called Spider-Men. Nothing else was given on it, with many fans noticing the two spider symbols which comprised the image resembled that of Miles Morales, the Spider-Man of the more modern and edgy Ultimate Marvel universe, and Peter Parker of the core, or 616, universe. Many speculated that this was the first hint towards a long awaited crossover event (13 years in fact) with the 616 universe and the Ultimate universe, an event that was teased before in Mark Millar's Ultimate Fantastic Four arc Crossover, but in fact turned out to be the introduction of the Marvel Zombies (a concept that, ironically, refuses to die). Now, in an interview with The New York Times , writer Brian Michael Bendis has revealed that the 616 and Ultimate universes will indeed collide in the June launching five issue mini series. A common foe will unite Parker and Morales, who took over the role from the Ultimate Peter Parker after last years event Death of Spider-Man. Talking about the event, which coincides with Spider-Mans 50th anniversary, Bendis had this to say:

€œFor the 50th anniversary of Spider-Man, what everyone was looking for was a Spider-Man story that mattered. Well, here ya go"

Not sure how serious he meant that remark, but it will certainly be one story to watch this summer. The mini series, written by Bendis, with art by Sara Pichelli and covers by Jim Cheung. The first issue cover and it's variant can be seen below:
