MCU: 5 Times Iconic Comic Characters Were Replaced In The Movies

4. Ego Replaces J'son

Silver Surfer Thor Ragnarok
Marvel Studios

During the events of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Peter Quill finds out that his dad is Ego the Living Planet. What begins as a feelgood reunion with his lost father quickly goes south when Ego's evil motives are finally revealed and the Guardians have to put him down.

In the comics, Ego is not Peter's dad. Ego is very much still a living planet in the pages of Marvel comics, but you wouldn't find him seeding any humans. Peter's dad was originally J'son of Spartax, a sketchy ruler of an empire Peter was to be heir to, given the correct guidance of his nefarious father.

Peter will learn that, as with his father in the MCU, J'son is a villain and a terrible role model. Peter rejects the life J'son has set out for him and even overthrows him in the process. J'son, now deposed from Spartax, has taken to building a criminal empire instead and donned the alias Mister Knife. Edgy.
