MCU: 5 Times Iconic Comic Characters Were Replaced In The Movies

3. Spider-Man Replaces Ragnarok

The confrontation prior to the airport fight in Captain America: Civil War is very similar to the confrontation before the factory fight in Civil War in the comics. In the MCU, Tony surprises the anti-registration forces with a surprise addition to his team: Spider-Man.

Peter Parker's debut is a light-hearted and playful one, very much in-line with Spider-Man's character and a stand-out moment in the movie. During the battle, when Ant-Man grows to his giant form, it's Spidey who brings him down with his AT-AT inspired plan.

In the comics, the events are much darker. The surprise arrival is Ragnarok, a robot clone of Thor created by the pro-registration leaders Stark, Pym and Richards initially to give the impression Thor had returned and supports the act. Goliath, another hero who uses Pym particles to alter their size like Ant-Man, grows to his giant form to stop Ragnarok and is promptly murdered by the robot courtesy of a lightning strike through the chest.

Now just imagine if Spider-Man would have murdered Ant-Man like that.

Gary has been reading Marvel Comics since he was 6 years old. Rather than retain knowledge on things such as Maths or Science - he chose to become a sponge for most things Marvel. He has a longstanding grudge against Iron Man he has harbored since Civil War(2006).
