MCU Phase 4: 10 Things You Need To Know About Namor

9. He’s Marvel’s Aquaman

Namor actually came on the scene two years before Aquaman, although the latter is much more famous. There’s quite a long history of this happening in the comics, with Doom Patrol debuting before X-Men as an example of the pair’s fortunes in reverse.

For a while, there was the worry that neither movie could work; underwater isn’t too difficult to draw, but the spectacle and logistics of portraying it in live action could lead to a whole host of problems. Thankfully, last year DC’s Aquaman went off without a hitch, becoming one of the DCEU’s best movies, both critically and commercially.

This paves the way for Namor, who shares a similar skill-set with his would-be knock off. Both are fantastic swimmers, obviously, and while both can telepathically communicate with sea creatures, Aquaman does it far more often. To make up for this though, Namor can channel sea creatures powers into his own body, like the ability to electrify things when in the presence of electric eels.

Namor has the ability to fly too, which gives him a dry land advantage, despite his trident being canonically weaker and lesser used than Aquaman’s. His weakness to pollution is undeniably lame, however.
