Todd McFarlane's Spawn reboot may be a ways away from nearing completion, but the creator and director of the upcoming film already has plans for an Animated spin-off.

The character, McFarlane's brainchild, kicked off something massive when he was first introduced in 1992. Image Comics' early days were typified by the creator and his demonic creation, leading to an indie-boom during the period and Spawn-mania later in the decade too, with the character receiving both a live-action and animated adaptation over the course of four years.

McFarlane is keen to reignite the success Al Simmons found in his heyday, spearheading a cinematic revival that he'll write and direct but now, thanks to ScreenGeek, we know another animated show could be on the horizon as well. In an interview, McFarlane said that:

“I’m going to get the [Spawn] movie out and then we still have the rights for TV and animation and we’ll just figure it out. I’ve also got to figure out how to get Keith David in my movie, too. Just for one line.”

Keith David, apart from being a darling of the acting profession, is equally as renowned for his voiceover work. He played Simmons in the original animated series, and it'd be fantastic to see him in the role once more, especially if it's as dark as the original cartoon was.

As for the Spawn reboot itself, McFarlane has his eyes fixed on a hard R-rating. Like Neil Marshall's upcoming Hellboy film, the feature will reportedly boast a horror-vibe and release either in 2018 or 2019. No word on if Sam and Twitch will be getting a starring role, but, if McFarlane's involved, then an appearance must surely be on the cards.

And for those who aren't so familiar with the animated series, here's the intro. Awesome stuff.
